ACS said the wristbands allow for payment of fares at bus readers and airport faregates and eliminates the need for disabled riders to handle cards or other payment devices. Through a pilot program, the wristbands can be acquired at a self-service kiosk at the Hoboken Station in New Jersey that dispenses and reloads PayPass-enabled prepaid cards.
ACS reported that its contactless fare payment technology is currently available on six New Jersey bus routes, including routes into New York City. At Penn Station in New York City, N.J. transit riders can use MasterCard-branded, contactless prepaid cards to pay for fares at ticket vending machines and ticket windows, ACS said.
